In the early 1990s, a sailor with close ties to the Canadian Navy heard a challenge straight from the admirals:
they needed a better way to stop fires from spreading on warships. Their current method—stuffing hardwood
blocks into bulkhead openings—was outdated, labor-intensive, and ineffective for sealing around modern cabling and piping. They needed something smarter. Something moldable. Something that could adapt.
That spark of a need ignited an idea in Jorgen, the original founder of Pyrophobic Systems. He partnered with
the Canadian Navy to develop a new kind of material—one that could be shaped, scaled, and, most importantly,
expand in the heat of a fire to seal and contain it. From that collaboration, Intuplas™ was born: the first
intumescent thermoplastic engineered by Pyrophobic.
What began as a mission to protect lives at sea has evolved into a relentless pursuit to make life safer
everywhere—at home, at work, and on the move.
Our materials are now used in three-dimensional, scalable applications, meeting the world’s most rigorous fire
safety standards. The first to adopt them outside the defense world were construction leaders—multinational OEMs seeking superior fire barriers for high-risk buildings.
In Energy Storage Systems (ESS), we developed LithiumPrevent™, our proprietary material that absorbs heat,
withstand open flame, and contains thermal runaway at the module, unit, or rack level—preserving infrastructure,
reducing risk, and saving lives.
In Electric Vehicles (EVs), our intumescent solution, LithiumPrevent™, contains lithium-ion battery fires and
prevents thermal runaway. Our material not only withstands extreme conditions but has also been proven to
mitigate arc-induced thermal runaway—a breakthrough in EV battery safety.
