Intumescent thermoplastic electrical box

Protect the small openings that can compromise a fire-rated wall.

The FireBlok Firestop Gasket is an intumescent thermoplastic electrical box insert used as a membrane penetration firestop to maintain the fire-resistant ratings of 1- and 2-hour fire walls. The insert is certified for both 1 & 2 hour, U300, U400, V400 and U411 wall assemblies with metal electrical boxes with plastic or metal cover plates according to the ASTM E119/E814 standards for fire resistive wall openings.

A passive fire protection material that fits into the way electrical boxes are already built

Electrical boxes are essential, but every membrane penetration introduces a firestop detail that must be solved. FireBlok Gasket gives OEM teams, fire protection engineers, architects, distributors and contractors, a compact, pre-formed intumescent firestop material that adheres to the back of the box, supports fire partitioning for commercial buildings, and helps simplify field installation.

Build for Compliance

Support building code firestop solution requirements with a certified electrical box fire gasket for 1 and 2 hour fire-rated walls.

Reduce Installation Friction

The insert is easily applied by hand, adheres to the back of the electrical box, and is pre-scored for snapping to fit specific box sizes.

Protect Compartmentation

When exposed to heat, the intumescent material expands to help create a high-performance fire seal around the penetration.

Preserve Design Flexibility

Specify one component across common box formats instead of redesigning every wall cavity fire protection detail from scratch.

Support acoustic goals

FireBlok Gasket includes soundproof performance with an STC Rating 52, tested to ASTM E90.

Lifecycle Confidence

The insert is warranted for the life of the building when stored below 130ºF / 54ºC before installation.

How it Works

From a small pad to a code-ready firestop detail.

FireBlok Gasket is designed around a simple story: install it before the wall is closed, let the material stay passive during normal use, and rely on intumescent expansion when elevated temperature threatens the assembly.

01 Place

Apply the insert by hand inside the metal electrical box.

02 Fit

Use the pre-scored break-apart.

03 Activate & Seal

Expansion begins at 300ºF / 148ºC during a fire event. The material expands more than 20 times to help protect the wall cavity and compartmentation barrier.

Tests and Certifications

Evidence engineers can build into submittals.

FireBlok Gasket is specified for metal electrical box membrane penetrations in fire-rated construction materials where predictable passive fire protection systems matter.

Fire-rated Wall Assemblies

Certified for both 1 and 2 hour U300, U400, V400 and U411 wall assemblies with metal electrical boxes and plastic or metal cover plates.

Acoustic Performance

Soundproof with an STC Rating 52.

High Intumescence

FAQ

FireBlok Gasket questions for OEM engineers, architects, distributors and contractors

What is a FireBlok Gasket?

FireBlok Gasket is an intumescent thermoplastic insert used as a membrane penetration firestop in metal electrical boxes. It helps maintain the fire-resistant rating of wall assemblies.

What problem does it solve in passive fire protection systems?

Electrical boxes can weaken compartmentation fire barriers when they penetrate fire-rated walls. FireBlok provides a pre-formed intumescent firestop material that helps protect the wall cavity around the box.

What electrical box sizes can it be used with?

It can be used in 1-gang boxes, 4 in. square boxes and 4-11/16 in. square boxes.

Is FireBlok Gasket certified for 1 and 2 hour fire-rated walls?

Yes. It is certified for both 1- or 2-hour U300, U400, V400 and U411 wall assemblies with metal electrical boxes and plastic or metal cover plates.

Does it work with plastic and metal faceplates?

Yes. It is certified for both plastic and metal faceplates in all fire-rated walls.

Does FireBlok support soundproofing?

Yes. FireBlok is listed with an STC Rating 52 and was tested to ASTM E90 Standard.

At what temperature does it begin expanding?

Expansion begins at 300ºF / 148ºC. The material is highly intumescent and expands more than 20 times its original size.

Can it help with UL 1479 / ASTM E814 firestop questions?

FireBlok is a building code firestop material for electrical box membrane penetrations. For UL 1479 / ASTM E814 tested system questions, verify the exact listed system, wall assembly and AHJ requirements with the Pyrophobic team before submittal.

Is this an ASTM E119 ceiling fire resistance product?

FireBlok Gasket is positioned for fire-rated wall assemblies with metal electrical boxes. For ASTM E119 ceiling fire resistance or other horizontal assembly requirements, contact Pyrophobic to confirm the applicable listed system.

Where can FireBlok Gasket be purchased?

FireBlok Gasket is available through Orbit Electric.
