Intuplas is a nanocomposite material comprising of a thermoplastic carrier combined with a patented inorganic intumescent activator. The material is a noncorrosive, nonhydroscopic, intumescent, fire resistant thermoplastic. As with most plastics, Intuplas is similarly a recyclable thermoplastic, that is clean to the touch and safe to handle. Intuplas can utilize a full range of thermoplastic carriers including recycled plastic. At typical ambient temperature Intuplas has an unlimited shelf life, but begins to intumesce at approximately 200°C with expansion rates of 2 to 100 times the original volume. When tested in accordance with ASTM E119 for up to a 2 hour rating, the thermoplastic transforms into a thermally resistant, dense, insulating ash. Intuplas is appropriate for use in normal ambient temperatures.
